Its been a full year since I've made the major transition from my Corporate HR career that I held for 12 years. When I left, it wasn't a surprise. I was prepared once the season came to end.
Its been quite the journey of removing layers, and unveiling the masks of who I thought I was. It's funny how you can do something for so long and not realize how much of your identity is invested in what you do, until its been removed.
Cleaning Out My Closet
Last fall, I was inspired to give away several clothing items that were associated with my old corporate identity. I regularly declutter my home, but I remember being particularly excited about this session. My intention was to donate them to a women's specific organization or shelter.
I managed to fill a couple of bags with slacks, blouses, and dresses. Shortly after, I placed them in the trunk of my car to ensure they would be dropped off.
I'm slightly embarrassed that the bags stayed in my trunk for 8 months.
You would think my weekly grocery store run's would be a good enough reminder to drop them off. Instead, I would shove them as far back as possible, and rationalize that I hadn't found the "right" place to donate them to.
What I was afraid to admit
It wasn't until last week I realized why it taken me so long to make a simple donation. Yes I was procrastinating to find the right organization, but the underline truth was a small part of me wasn't ready to let them go - I might need those items again.
God was VERY clear with me a year and a half prior to my transition that my corporate season (at least what I was most familiar with) would come to an end. Getting rid of those clothes represented that life for me.
I've learned the value of decluttering to make room for the new and release old attachments before. There was an energy attached to those clothes that I hadn't fully released. I believed I would have to reach back to that old life rather than fully trust the new season I entered.
The good news is I finally donated the bag last weekend! I find it no coincidence that new doors have flown open for me in regards to my business just this week alone.
What's in your closet?
Perhaps you're holding onto something you need to release.
Regardless if its a bag of clothes, or an old engagement ring, what are you afraid to let go of that may be blocking your next breakthrough?
Abundant love,
Keandra
